Free Mulch Day

This weekend we did our annual "Free Mulch Day".  We got up super early and drove to the Denver Urban Farm and Parks Center and picked up free mulch.  The big change this year was no more dig your own compost.  It is either front end loader of buy bags.  When we drove in there were maybe 10 pallets as tall as a teenager of bagged compost.  We got 4 bags and then loaded the back of the pickup with mulch.  This year the mulch was good!  Very very little garbage.  It took a long time until we found Christmas tree lights.  We found more weird limb and stringy bark than anything else.  We had enough time to do a second load at around 11:00.   They had one pallet with only about 10 or 12 bags of compost.  But the hill of Mulch was still going strong.  There were a lot of families picking up mulch.  It was nice to see.

When we got home, we unloaded the mulch in time to watch the Kentucky Derby.  Great Derby this year.  A very strategic race this year.  The top winners were in the back of the pack for the first half.  The winner Orb was six horses wide at one point to get around the pack.  Orb was second to last at one point.  But the rider was smart and patience.  In the end Orb was covered in mud.  The first, second and third place horses were less than one length apart in the end.

Sunday we moved boxes around.  We saw both Louise's Aunt and her mother.  It was a nice weekend.
