Lousie and I went and saw the new James Bond movie, "Skyfall".  I think it is the best James Bond movie ever.  Not only do I think it is the best James Bond movie, I think it might be my best experence at a James Bond movie.

Just to recap these are my previously most memorable experiences at a James Bond movie.

1973's "Live and Let Die"  Location Cheyenne's Lincoln theater.  I remember going with Sarah, Mom and Dad.  Sarah and I were at the age were it wasn't cool to sit with your parents at a movie.  So we sat two or three rows in front of them.  The movie involved a heroin king pin who was going to take over the world by getting everyone addicted to heroin.  In the big scene where he explains his diabolic plan to James Bond, he says that he is giving away the heroin for free at first.  That will drive all his competitors out of the market. When the competitors are gone, then he'll start charging what ever he wants.  He delivers the line  "Then me and the Phone Company will be the biggest monopolies in the World" At that point we can hear my father burst out laughing.  No one else in the theater seemed to get the joke.  Back then, I scrunch down in my seat, hiding.  But every time  after, that I remember that fondly.

1977's "The Spy who Loved Me"  Location Cheyenne's Lincoln theater.  Tommy, cousin George and I walked down to the Lincoln theater.  It was typical Cheyenne winter evening.  The wind was blowing a light snow fall driving the 32degree temperature to sub zero.  I really remember being all bundled up walking down Randal avenue with my big brother and cousin, just feeling like one of the big guys.   Can't remember much about the movie (I had to look it up), but I remember that feeling.

2006's "Casino Royale" Location the Story Teller Theater in Taos New Mexico.  Louise and I where in Taos for vacation during Thanksgiving.  I am pretty sure this was on Thanksgiving night.  The theater in Taos was pretty small and packed.  Taos really doesn't seem like a small town, but that night at the theater everyone seemed to know each other.  As people walk in to get a seat they would see some one they knew and wave.  I joked to Louise,  It must be obvious that we are the tourist, no one knows us.  But either way we felt really welcome.  Not to mention until "Skyfall", "Casino Royale" was the best Bond movie every.

  1. Now that's funny ... because my most memorable james Bond movie would be "The Spy Who Loved Me" that I saw at a drive-in movie theatre in Temple, Texas with Tommy and Linda. At 10 PM at night it was 93 degrees. We sat in the back of their pick up to watch the movie and Tommy kept singing "Nobody Does it Better" to his wife of just over a year ... true love!

The second most memorable would be "Live and Let Die" but not for the same reasons (I don't remember that line, but I sure enjoy the story). I think it was my first James Bond movie. We got to stay up late to go see it. There was a lunar eclipse that night that we saw on the way home. The theme song stuck in my head for a long time (Paul McCartney and Wings) ... and I got to drink Cold Duck when we got home.

Hm.... maybe I"m remembering the experience more than the movie...
