For today's story remember the following:
Armature
In sculpture, an armature is a framework around which the sculpture is built. This framework provides structure and stabilit. or generally refers to one of the two principal electrical components of an electro mechanical machine generally in a motor or generator but it may also mean the pole piece of a permanent magnet or electromagnet, or the moving iron part of a solenoid or relay.Amateur
A person who engages in an activity as a pastime rather than as a profession. One who has never accepted money, or who accepts money under restrictions specified by a regulatory body, for participating in a competition.
One lacking the skill of a professional
Hippy
Create their own communities, listened to psychedelic music, embraced the sexual revolution, and use drugs such as cannabis, LSD, and psilocybin mushrooms to explore altered states of consciousness. The sandals most often associated with hippies are Birkenstocks. They have cork bottoms and leather upper material.
The Story:
Time: Late 60's
Location: Riding in the back seat of the big blue GM suburban along Pershing Blvd.
Grand-father: Those guys aren't hippies!
Father: Well, Dad, then what are they?
Grand-father: Those are what ya call Armatures.
Me: (Thinking to myself. Grandpap is hilarious! This guy is a genius! See how he switched the word Armature for Amateur! Those guys aren't even amateur they're armature, just frameworks providing the core around which the copper wire or the real art wrapped!)
I could not help but think about this as I paid for my first pair of Birkendstock sandals this weekend. Am I an Armature or an Amateur?
